Year round fishing

The good thing about fishing is that it is a hobby that you can enjoy at all times of the year - and still get plenty of variation and new experiences. Jämtland Härjedalen can absolutely offer fishing in all seasons.

Early summer
Lighter nights and tender green nature. It is time for Arctic char trolling with long spinners on the large lakes. The grayling has regained its appetite after romancing and the brown trout is hungry again after the long winter. Trolling can be fruitful during this period. It’s a good time for fishing with a bait and hook in the streams. And believe it or not, in the highest mountain lakes you can still go ice fishing!

High summer
The highest mountains turn blue and the snow patches shrink. Brown trout feast on the hatching mayflies. Small holes perforate the mountain waters and in the forest lakes large perch tug gratifyingly at your float. In the calms and currents of running waters, brown trout, grayling and whitefish are on the go. And the light nights mean you can fish all day and all night - such freedom!

Late summer
Time for fishing at dusk. Arctic char eat gnat larvae at sunset. And as the night darkens, brown trout strike during the peak of the caddis fly hatching. Large whitefish will bite at a dry fly or a spinner - even in sunshine. And northern pike and perch love a heatwave.

Early autumn
With September comes an explosion of colours and calm days. Brown trout and Arctic char get busy with reproduction, but the grayling remains active and will bite at a dry fly. Several rivers and streams are open for grayling fishing, while brown trout and Arctic char are protected. Whitefish, perch and northern pike are still active, especially during mild Indian summer days.

Late autumn
The cut-off period. Grayling still patrol the lake shores as the mountain tarns and small lakes start to freeze over. During this period, brown trout and Arctic char are very active after reproduction time, so ice fishing can give you some great experiences during a season that some people find gloomy. This is also the time for fishing whitefish by net, an atmospheric kind of fishing on a dark autumn evening.

Mid-winter
More people should experience the atmosphere of mid-winter fishing. During recent years, people have discovered that many ice fishing waters in Jämtland Härjedalen are very good in December and January. Why not spend Christmas or New Year at one of the Dream Fishing facilities? Experience the fishing, the snow, the Arctic nights, the frosty cold, the warmth of the cabin...

Early spring
Frozen lakes sparkling in the early spring sunshine are like magnets for ice fishing fans. With March comes lovely long days. Sun tan, snow mobile safaris, circulating schools of Arctic char. Long cross-country tours on skis with a backpack. A campfire to make coffee and a nap on a reindeer fur rug. Super recreation for the whole family. April and May form the “fifth season” in the mountains. Side-by-side, winter and summer battle for supremacy. Budding birches and migratory birds, warmer winds and light nights. Crust on the snow and blue ice. This is a season for the connoisseur. Ice fishing in early spring is not only fantastic fishing, it also gives you a nature experience above the rest.
