Three dream tips for Arctic char

You don’t need to drive your snow mobile deep into the mountains to find the coveted Arctic char. In the Dream Fishing areas, there are several lovely, easy-to-reach places where you can pretty much just step out of the car and start your fishing adventure. Here are 3 tips for anybody wanting to experience Arctic char fishing close to roads.

  1. Jormvattnet There are plenty of good fishing spots between Gäddede and Jormvattnet, right next to the road. Starting from Jormvattnet Fishing Camp you can follow the snow mobile trails out onto the lake, and you don’t have to walk more than 50 meters for a chance of really good fish. There is good fishing all the way from December until the ice melts.
  2. Valsjöbyn village The Arctic char from Rengen is famous, both amongst fly-fishing and ice-fishing enthusiasts. You can park your car by the side of road 340 after the village of Valsjöbyn and walk down onto the frozen lake. Plenty of meal-sized fish, and occasionally some really large ones pop up. The best season is in January - February, and if you come by snow mobile you can find plenty of tarns with Arctic char in the area.
  3. The Arctic char triangle around Storsjö Chapel Alongside road 535 between Storsjö Chapel and the village of Åsarna, there are three very accessible waters with good Arctic char fishing. The lakes are called Björnsjön, Västra Rotsjön and Mellersta Rotsjön. In these lakes, the best Arctic char fishing is in early spring until the ice has melted. There is also grayling and brown trout here, so you have a good chance of an exciting catch. Wind shelters and good hospitality.
